One of the first activities we did with the local community was to participate in an event organized by local organization of young mums together with youngsters to clean the beach at Lapmežciems, one of the seaside villages of the park.
The day was colored by the presence of a strange character called ”Cūkmens” (the Pig-man), making kids and grown ups pay attention to places they leave their garbage and stressing the idea that throwing rubbish all around will make people turn into pigs just like him.
A lot of the people from Lapmežciems and surrounding villages took part in the beach cleaning event, and a meal with traditional Latvian fish soup was prepared at the end for all the participants. A small concert on the beach was organized as well.
