“The only reward you receive for a good work done, it´s the option to do more good work. “

As soon as we had demonstrated our ability to work outdoors, some other people in the park asked us to help with work nobody is happy to share.
This time we had to cut bushes and trees out of a piece of land near the village of Kudra. This part of the forest was cut to put an electric power line, and instead of abandoning this site, the direction of the Park decided to transform it into a grassland to add more biodiversity to the National Park.

MORE TREES

We had just arrived from a week without sleep in Rezekne, and more work was waiting for us.
With the water level of River Vēršupīte having reached its minimum, it was now possible to reach every single spot of the river bed and take out all fallen trees that may block the water current and possibly cause flooding in some parts of Kemeri. To do that we had to help two workers of the park to cut the fallen trees with a chainsaw and take the wood away. Part of that wood will be recycled as timber, and another part will be left on the swamp forest to keep the normal process of decomposition.

Recycling Wood

We keep on with the cleaning work in the “Dumbraja laipa”, the wooden trail right behind the administration centre. This time we have to take out the remaining old pieces of wood from the previous wooden trail, that has been already destroyed and replaced by the new one, but the workers did not take it away.

To find a better use to all that wood we are going to use the bigger sticks to make new marks for the footpaths. The small pieces will be just left to dry to be used for heating during the next winter.
